Homemade Cake Mix Oreos

by | Oct 4, 2014 | Cookies Bars & Brownies

This week was Mike Jr’s birthday and my sweet friend Krista brought him this delicious treat that she calls Homemade Oreos.  I knew immediately that this recipe needed to be in our recipe book, especially since when we originally asked her for recipes she sent over a cute note, (pictured below), and NO recipes.  Now we have a true recipe addition from our dear friend, even though we included her awesome note in the book too.  These cookies are in my opinion WAY better than regular Oreos because they are softer and have way more flavor.  Krista said she always makes both regular and double stuffed, (with double the frosting!)

Ingredients:

Cookies:

  • 1 box devils food cake mix
  • 2 tsp flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup shortening

Frosting:

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 8oz pkg cream cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3-3/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. For the cookies:  mix together the cake mix, flour, vanilla, eggs and shortening.
  2. Roll in to small balls.  (Should make about 24 balls.).
  3. Bake at 350 for 8-10 mins.
  4. For the frosting:  beat together the margarine and cream cheese.
  5. Add the vanilla and powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
  6. Frost two cookies together.
